Agbonlahor: Erling Haaland told to be ‘very careful’ after Man City teammate development
Erling Haaland has to be “very careful” after his Man City teammate Julian Alvarez’s performances at the World Cup, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker insisted Alvarez proved he is a number nine worthy of leading the line after his role in Argentina’s World Cup win.
The striker, who turns 23 next month, featured in all seven of Argentina’s games and ended the tournament with four goals and an assist.
He moved from River Plate to Man City permanently in the summer but started just three Premier League games in the first part of the season.
“I just think other players have got to be very careful.
“With the way he played, he showed what he can do. He showed that he can be that striker.
“If Haaland was off form or injured you know that you can play Alvarez up there with Foden off him or Bernardo Silva off him.
“It just shows that Man City have got even more options now.
“I think Alvarez’s best position is down the middle, I think he showed that. With Messi behind him, imagine him with Phil Foden behind him.
“That might be something Pep does in some games to give Haaland a rest.
“It just shows how strong Man City are.
“After the World Cup, he’s going to be even more confident.”

Alvarez scored seven goals and provided two assists in 20 appearances across all competitions in the first part of the season.
He is under contract at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2027.
