Agbonlahor: Everton must appoint Marcelo Bielsa alternative on ‘six-month’ contract as contact made

Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted Everton should appoint Sean Dyche on a “six-month contract” after seeing an approach for Marcelo Bielsa knocked back.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted Bielsa’s “carnage” footballing style would not have been suited to the Toffees’ predicament.

Sources told this site on Tuesday (24 January) that Bielsa has rejected an approach from Everton as they search for a new boss.

The Argentine is said to have been the number one choice of owner Farhad Moshiri.

Frank Lampard was sacked by Everton on Monday night (23 January) after losing back-to-back relegation six-pointers against Southampton and West Ham.

The Toffees sit 19th in the Premier League ahead of their next two league clashes against Arsenal and Liverpool.

Bielsa was sacked by Leeds United in February 2022 with the Whites deep in relegation trouble, while Dyche has been out of work since leaving Burnley in April 2022.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I think they can run as hard as Bielsa would want.

“When you’re a Premier League footballer, you have that fitness. If a manager comes in and demands that you run more, you do it.

“I don’t think that would be a problem.

“But Bielsa’s style of football is carnage.

“For me, they should get Sean Dyche. Give him a six-month contract and let him keep you up.

“I don’t think Bielsa would have kept them up with the style of football he plays.”
