Agbonlahor hits out at Man United after unexpected Mason Mount twist
Man United could regret handing Mason Mount the iconic number seven shirt after he completed a move from Chelsea this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has claimed that United new boy is not equipped with the pedigree to take the Red Devils to the next level ahead of next season.
Erik ten Hag’s side have signed Mount from Chelsea for an initial £55million plus £5million in add-ons.
Across his first three seasons at Chelsea – which excludes the most recent campaign – Mount had 44 goal involvements across 105 Premier League appearances. The only midfielders with more were Man City’s Kevin De Bruyne (74) and Fernandes (61).
With Mount taking the number seven at United, worn by the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona and David Beckham, Agbonlahor doesn’t believe that the midfielder showed enough impact whilst wearing a Chelsea shirt to warrant such status at his new club.
“Mount won’t take Manchester United to the next level,” He told Football Insider.
“Mount won’t make Manchester United a better team either as he won’t be a decisive factor in winning them the Premier League or getting them in the top two but he will certainly player a part in helping Erik ten Hag secure a Champions League spot

“It’s not a marquee signing and I think they’ve overspent on him with what else is potentially out there.
“It shows clubs no longer care about their the meaning of numbers, look at Arsenal when they gave Eddie Nketiah the no.14 despite the history Thierry Henry created.”
