Agbonlahor issues ’embarrassing’ Jurgen Klopp claim after ‘unbelievable’ Liverpool reveal

Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted Jurgen Klopp was not being patronising by putting his arm around Scott Parker as Liverpool thrashed Bournemouth 9-0 on Saturday (27 August).

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker admitted Parker may have felt “embarrassed” but will soon be back in work.

Liverpool recorded their biggest ever Premier League win at Anfield and Klopp was spotted with his arm around his opponent on the touchline at 9-0.

The result saw Parker lose his job on the south coast as he appeared to criticise the lack of investment in the transfer window after the game.

As quoted by the Guardian on Tuesday (30 August), Klopp claimed he found the 41-year-old’s sacking “unbelievable” and “really harsh”.

“I don’t think it was patronising, I thought it was real,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“He probably felt sorry for Scott Parker and put his arm around him.

“I don’t think he was trying to humiliate him, it was more an arm around him to say ‘I know how you feel, I didn’t mean for this to happen. Obviously I wanted to win the game but I didn’t want to humiliate you’.

“Scott Parker is one of the people that managers and ex-players have respect for.

“It’s one of those things. Scott Parker might look back at it and think ‘It was a bit embarrassing because I’ve been beaten 9-0 and the manager who is beating me is hugging me’.

“I feel for Parker but he’ll be back in work in the Championship, I’m sure.”
