Agbonlahor issues emphatic Harry Maguire verdict after journalist’s Chelsea transfer update

Gabriel Agbonlahor has poured cold water on the idea of Chelsea making a move for Man United captain Harry Maguire prior to the window closing.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Aston Villa striker said the Blues’ current options are “better” than Maguire.

According to the Evening Standard‘s Nizaar Kinsella (24 August), Thomas Tuchel’s side could try to sign the 29-year-old if a deal for Wesley Fofana from Leicester falls through.

The Frenchman has been training with the Foxes’ under-23 team after failing to turn up to first team training.

Chelsea are said to have had two bids for Fofana rejected, including a £70million offer.

The 21-year-old is said to be keen on a move to Stamford Bridge.

Maguire was benched for United’s 2-1 victory over Liverpool on Monday (22 August).

The England international has three years remaining on his contract at Old Trafford with the option of a further year.

When asked for his assessment of the latest, Agbonlahor told Football Insider: “If you look at Harry Maguire, he hasn’t started the season off in his best form, he’s been dropped.

Chelsea

I just don’t really feel there was ever a real link there. Chelsea, they’ve got [Kalidou] Koulibaly, [Trevor] Chalobah, you’d say they’re probably better than Maguire. There’s Thiago Silva, [Cesar] Azpilicueta, I feel like they’re ok for centre-halves.

I don’t see Chelsea doing that move I feel like Maguire will stay where he is.
