Agbonlahor issues emphatic verdict on Man United sealing permanent Marcel Sabitzer deal

Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted Marcel Sabitzer is “not good enough” and Man United should steer clear of signing him permanently.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the Red Devils need better backups than the 30-year-old if they are to mount a serious title challenge.

Sources told this site on Tuesday (18 April), Sabitzer has a “good chance” of completing a permanent move to Man United this summer after a successful loan spell at the club.

It is likely the move will hinge on Bayern Munich’s asking price for the midfielder – who has fallen down the pecking order in Bavaria.

Sabitzer, whose contract at the German giants expires in June 2025, has notched three goals and one assist in 14 appearances for the Old Trafford club.

Midfield has been identified as a key area for potential summer signings by Erik ten Hag.

When asked if Sabitzer has done enough to earn a permanent move, Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I don’t think so.

“I’ve watched him a few times now. The odd game he’s decent, but he has been poor as well – and against Sevilla on Thursday was one of those games.

“I don’t think he offers enough. This is Man United, a club that want to get back to challenging for titles and playing Champions League football.

“They can’t be signing players like him, for me. They need to build a stronger bench.

“Sabitzer is a second-string player, but they need to go for better backups.

Man United

“Look at Man City – they can bring on Mahrez, Bernardo Silva, etc.

“I just don’t think Sabitzer is good enough for Man United.”
