Agbonlahor issues Everton claim after Ferguson news

It is not a significant blow for Everton to lose Duncan Ferguson from Frank Lampard’s coaching staff, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed it is the right time for Ferguson to leave Goodison Park and he could still return one day.

Everton confirmed earlier this week that (July 4) that the 50-year-old had left his role as an assistant coach to pursue his ambitions to be a manager.

After two spells as a player, the Scot returned to the club as part of the academy coaching staff in 2014 and has spent two spells in interim charge of the first team.

The latest came in January when he oversaw one game – a defeat to Aston Villa – before Lampard took over.

He won one, drew two and lost the other two games he took charge of across his two spells in temporary charge.

“He’s done well but I don’t think it will be [a blow],” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“Frank Lampard has come in there and will want his own coaching staff, he’ll want his own coaches to coach his players.

“Duncan Ferguson’s been there and he’s come in when they’ve needed him and he hasn’t been given the job full time.

“Sometimes, it’s time to go, get your own coaching staff together and go for a job yourself. I feel like it’s the right time for him to do that.

“You don’t know what the future holds, he could be back at Everton one day as a coach in the future.”
