Agbonlahor issues Mohamed Salah ‘armchair’ claim after Liverpool latest

Mohamed Salah is not “sitting in his armchair” after signing a big new contract at Liverpool, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England forward insisted he has “zero” worries about Salah losing his form this season.

After much speculation over his future last season, the 30-year-old signed a new three-year deal at Anfield over the summer.

Sources told Football Insider (2 June) that the contract is worth a stunning £400,000-a-week and, in wages alone, will cost the club £62.4million.

But with Sadio Mane gone, the Reds and Salah have endured a difficult start to the season domestically and in Europe.

The Egyptian has only scored twice and provided two assists in six Premier League games as Liverpool sit down in seventh.

Asked whether there was any chance his new contract has affected his form, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “No, zero.

Salah wanted what he deserves and he got it. The last thing he is now thinking about is money.

“He’s thinking ‘I want goals, I want goal records, I want more, more, more’. He’s not thinking about sitting in his armchair, no way. Salah is the sort of guy who keeps wanting to break records.

“Every time I’ve watched him this season, he looks hungry, he doesn’t look like he’s relaxing. He’s just not getting the service he normally does.

“He’ll get one and then he’ll get a few. I’ve got no worries with Salah. Once Liverpool start providing, he’ll put them away.”

In other news, Kieran Maguire has claimed Liverpool are to cash in from a new deal “very soon” after a £428million U-turn.
