Agbonlahor issues Sean Dyche sack claim – ‘it’s what Everton need’

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Sean Dyche should remain Everton boss even if they drop to the Championship as he is the man to oversee a “complete rebuild”.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested relegation to the second tier could be what the Toffees need to energise the club.

Everton fell to a 4-1 home defeat against Newcastle on Thursday (27 April), leaving them 19th in the Premier League with five games to play.

The Toffees are two points from safety with games against Leicester, Brighton, Man City, Wolves and Bournemouth to play.

As quoted by the BBC (27 April), Dyche insisted Everton “can do it” but urged his side to correct their mistakes “quickly”.

The former Burnley boss signed a two-and-a-half-year contract when he arrived at Goodison Park in January.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I would keep him if Everton go down, yeah.

“Give him the opportunity to bring in his own players. He’s currently working with a squad who are not good enough to stay in this league.

“It’s difficult when you can’t even see where the goals are coming from.

“I think he’s definitely the man for the job in the Championship.

“Maybe it’s what Everton need. A complete rebuild with a lot of players leaving, and a lot of new faces. They can start again.”

Everton

Everton are one of two Premier League clubs to turn a profit in the transfer market over the past two seasons – having raked in £28.1million more than they’ve spent on new arrivals (as per Transfermarkt).

Dyche has won three of his 13 Premier League games in charge of the Toffees this term.

In other news, Everton offer for West Ham star could now be accepted.
