Agbonlahor issues verdict on Fabinho missing Liverpool’s final two matches

Fabinho will be undergoing “intense rehab and treatment” to ensure he is available for Liverpool in their Champions League final with Real Madrid later this month (28 May).

That is the view of ex-England and Aston Villa attacker Gabby Agbonlahor, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Liverpool’s midfield situation.

Fabinho, 28, has been absent since limping off with a hamstring injury during the Reds’ 2-1 win over Villa last week (10 May).

That made him a doubt for the final with Real Madrid in Paris but, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo on Monday (16 May), Jurgen Klopp revealed he is “progressing very well”.

James Milner started in defensive midfield as Klopp’s men beat Southampton on Tuesday night (17 May) while Henderson operated there as they lifted the FA Cup on Saturday (14 May).

And Agbonlahor claimed the Liverpool captain can do the job against the Spanish giants as well.

He told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I don’t think it will be a problem, no.

“Henderson can drop in there with Thiago and Naby Keita in front. I think they will be fine.

“Fabinho is a good defensive midfielder but Henderson can do just as good of a job. I don’t think there will be any problems.

“It’s still a race against the clock. There’s still time for players to recover before the final.

“He might be a doubt now but he can get intense rehab and treatment which means he might make it.”

Fabinho has played 47 times across all competitions while Henderson has racked up 55 appearances.

The pair started together when Liverpool beat Tottenham in the 2019 Champions League final.
