Agbonlahor issues verdict on Tottenham tabling big-money new Leandro Trossard bid after source update

Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted he “can’t see” Tottenham meeting the “expensive” asking price for Brighton star Leandro Trossard this month.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted Spurs need a new winger in the mid-season window – with fringe star Bryan Gil “not the answer” for Antonio Conte.

Sources told this site on Monday (9 January) that Tottenham have seen a verbal offer for Trossard, 28, knocked back by Brighton.

It is understood that the Seagulls have no intention of letting the Belgium international go this month.

The Premier League high-flyers have reportedly triggered a one-year extension clause in Trossard’s contract, keeping him at the club until June 2024.

Trossard was conspicuously absent from Brighton’s matchday squad for their 5-1 win over Middlesbrough in the FA Cup on Saturday (7 January) – with manager Roberto De Zerbi insisting he “wants more” from the star winger.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I think Trossard would be a good player for Spurs.

“The problem for Spurs is when two of that front four get injured – Kulusevski, Son, Kane, Richarlison – they’re very light.

“They need another winger, for sure. They’ve got a lot of games to play. FA Cup, Champions League, fighting for the top four.

“You can’t be playing Bryan Gil, he’s not the answer.

“But it’ll be expensive for Spurs. He’s got 18 months left, so it’s not going to be a cheap deal.

“I can’t see them coming up with the cash.”
