Agbonlahor: James Maddison tipped to complete transfer after Newcastle United source’s update

Gabby Agbonlahor has tipped James Maddison to “push through a move” from Leicester City as Newcastle United prepare a new bid.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England forward claimed Leicester are going backwards and Maddison will want to further his career elsewhere.

Sources told Football Insider at the weekend (24 September) that Eddie Howe is a “huge” admirer of the 25-year-old and Newcastle are set to return with a new bid in January.

The Magpies failed with a £50million offer in the summer window as Leicester were holding out for £60million.

However, they fear his value has dropped as he will enter the final 18 months of his contract in January.

Asked whether Maddison would force an exit next year, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I think he would yes.

“Maddison is probably looking at it now and thinking ‘You know what, I’ve done very well for Leicester but Leicester are going only one way and that’s backwards. I want to go forward in my career, I’m at the age where it’s time to go play for a club in Europe, the Champions League’.

“He’s good enough. If I’m Maddison I’m definitely trying to push through a move because the club is not matching his aspirations.”

Leicester have endured a terrible start to the season and are currently bottom of the Premier League table.

Maddison‘s individual form has not suffered and he has he three goals and one assist in six top-flight games.

In other news, a medical insider has revealed Alexander Isak’s Newcastle United return date and it is “worse than we feared”.
