Agbonlahor: Kemar Roofe may be open to quitting Rangers after news – ‘I see him on the school run’

Kemar Roofe may be open to quitting Rangers this summer if he can move back to Birmingham, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker revealed he had seen Roofe on the school run and he may want to move closer to home.

The Mirror reported at the weekend (17 July) that Derby County are considering a loan move for the 29-year-old as they look to rebuild the squad and prepare for life in League One.

The Scottish Sun reported the same day that the Gers have no plans to let the striker go and he is firmly in Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s plans for the upcoming campaign.

Roofe has not fully recovered from the injury that saw him miss the end of the 2021-22 season – including the Europa League final defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt.

“I do know Kemar Roofe, he’s Birmingham-based and I see him on the school run,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“Maybe sometimes with family, he might have had enough of travelling and wants somewhere closer to Birmingham.

“Derby have had a takeover, they’ll have more money available.

“It would be a nice move for him to get back home. He’s had a great time at Rangers but sometime it’s time to move on.”

Roofe has scored 34 times and provided a further five assists in 74 games across all competitions for Rangers.

The Jamaica international has two years left to run on his contract at Ibrox after signing a four-year deal when he moved from Anderlecht in the summer of 2020.
