Agbonlahor: Leeds United told to axe Patrick Bamford and teammate

Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted Rodrigo and Wilfried Gnonto should come back into the Leeds side against Liverpool on Monday (17 April) as he urged Javi Gracia to field his “best team”.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed Patrick Bamford and Luis Sinisterra should make way for the duo.

Bamford scored the opening goal against Crystal Palace last week (9 April) but Leeds eventually fell to a 5-1 defeat after a worrying collapse.

The Whites are now just two points outside the drop zone after back-to-back heavy defeats.

Rodrigo has notched 13 goals in 27 appearances in the 2022-23 season but has been benched in each of their last five Premier League games.

Meanwhile, Gnonto has earned rave reviews during his breakthrough season in England but has started just one of the last five top-flight games.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I think Gracia has got to look at his best team.

“Yes, Bamford scored a header – but he doesn’t offer enough, for me.

“I’d put out a front three of Rodrigo, Harrison and Gnonto.

“I think Leeds will be fine if they do that.

“There was something wrong with them last week against Palace. Players weren’t running, they were feeling sorry for themselves – and they just capitulated.

“It’s not acceptable. When you’re at this stage of the season, you can’t have those kinds of defeats.

“They’ve got to bounce back this weekend and try for three points.”
