Agbonlahor ‘loves’ Ramsey and claims he’s now the ‘standout’ Aston Villa player
Jacob Ramsey is getting better with every game and is the “standout player” for Aston Villa at the moment, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Aston Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer delivered his verdict after Ramsey put in another fine display in his side’s 1-0 win over Everton yesterday (22 January).
According to sofascore, the 20-year-old won 20 duels and ended with a 76 per cent pass accuracy at Goodison Park.
Last weekend (15 January), he scored and provided an assist in the 2-2 draw with Man United at Villa Park.
As quoted by Birmingham Live on Monday (17 January), Ramsey admitted his aim is to break into the senior England squad.
“Jacob Ramsey, for me, is getting better every game and is looking more confident,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“That’s what happens when you’re 20-years-old, you’re learning every game, you’re taking on advice every game, you’re learning from the players you play against.
“He’s a standout player at the moment. I’m sure having a midfielder like Steven Gerrard as your manager is only going to help.
“If you look at Gareth Southgate’s history you don’t need to be doing well in the Premier League for four years. Kalvin Phillips was doing well for a season in the Championship and got called up.

“If Ramsey continues to improve at the rate he is and is playing at the levels that he is, why not? The World Cup’s 10 months away why can’t he look to break into that England side?
“I love the way he’s thinking about that, he’s not just settling for being in the Under-21s.”
