Agbonlahor: Man United tipped to sign Diogo Dalot replacement after journalist’s ‘mega-money’ reveal

Gabby Agbonlahor has tipped Man United to sign an upgrade on Diogo Dalot next summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed they will offer Dalot a new contract but it will not be “mega-money” and will reflect his status as a back up player.

The 23-year-old has established himself as Erik ten Hag’s current first-choice right-back but is out of contract at Old Trafford next summer.

Fabrizio Romano reported earlier this week (26 September) that the club have the option to extend his deal by a further 12 months.

It is claimed that Man United’s priority is for the Portugal international to sign a new extended contract but they are yet to submit a proposal to the player.

“I think he definitely deserves a new contract,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“But Man United will maybe look at it and say ‘You’re going to get a contract worthy of a second-choice player, you’re not going to get mega money because we’re still looking for our number one right-back’.

“Diego Dalot is not the answer long-term for Man United.

“I do believe he deserves another contract but the contract will reflect being second-choice next season.”

Man United

Dalot has started all eight of Man United’s games across all competitions and is firmly ahead of Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the pecking order.

He also scored his first goals for Portugal with a brace in their 4-0 win over the Czech Republic at the weekend (24 September).

In other news, Man United have set their sights on signing an Aston Villa star and £45million will seal the deal.
