Agbonlahor names winner in Liverpool and Man United race to sign Cody Gakpo after talks twist

Gabby Agbonlahor has suggested Bayern Munich could trump Liverpool and Man United to the signing of Cody Gakpo.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed Bayern Munich are “crying out for attacking players” like Gakpo.

The 23-year-old is currently representing the Netherlands at the World Cup and has been one of the tournament’s breakout stars scoring three goals in four games.

Sources told Football Insider last month (26 November) that Man United have reached an “agreement in principle” with the striker but will still have to convince PSV Eindhoven to accept a bid.

Dutch outlet Voetbal International reported last week (29 November) that Liverpool are also set to enter talks with Gakpo’s representatives.

“I think he would suit Liverpool definitely,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“But the problem with these players is that there are going to be more than three or four teams that want them.

“Bayern Munich are crying out for attacking players, they’ve lost Lewandowski have got no striker.

“I think that’s a club that will be looking at him as well as Man United and Liverpool.

“It’s going to come down to who pays the most money to the agents, the parents and the player. It’s going to be expensive for anyone who signs these stars.”

Gakpo has scored 13 times and provided 17 assists in 30 games across all competitions for PSV this season.

The 13-time international is under contract at the Eredivisie club until the summer of 2026.

In other news, Kieran Maguire has claimed a “huge” Liverpool deal is on cards amid the latest from India and it “opens so many doors”.
