Agbonlahor offers to ‘drive Emerson Royal to the airport’ after source’s Tottenham reveal
Gabby Agbonlahor has offered to “drive Emerson Royal to the airport” as he is not good enough for Tottenham.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Aston Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer claimed Antonio Conte will want to sign an upgrade at right wing-back this summer.
A recruitment source told Football Insider on Wednesday (29 June) that Atletico Madrid have submitted a bid for Emerson, 23, who Spurs value at over £20million.
The Spanish giants want to bring in a replacement for Kieran Trippier who left for Newcastle United in January and have made their move for Emerson after learning Conte is open to letting him go.
“Emerson Royal, I would drive him to the airport to whatever club would take him off my hands,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“He’s not good enough, he doesn’t have the pace that’s needed for that position, he doesn’t have the defensive capabilities in that position and he’s very average on the ball.
“That’s a problem in the Premier League. If you are a right-back or right wing-back is not good on the ball that’s a major problem now. Football’s changed, you have to be good on the ball as a full-back or wing-back.
“That will be a position where Conte will want to bring somebody else in who can do a better job.”

Emerson moved to Tottenham from Barcelona last summer (2021) as one of Nuno Espirito Santo’s first signings.
He scored once and provided one assist in 41 games across all competitions in his debut campaign for Spurs.
In other news, Tottenham are only £1million from agreeing a fee for a big-money signing after new talks.
