Agbonlahor on Liverpool bombing out Andy Robertson after latest

Andy Robertson does not have to worry about his long-term place in the Liverpool starting XI, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England forward admitted Robertson has not been at his best recently but will not be replaced by Kostas Tsimikas as the first-choice left-back.

Tsimikas replaced the 28-year-old in the starting XI as Liverpool were held to a 0-0 draw by Everton last weekend (3 September).

The Scotland captain then returned to the team, and provided an assist, as the Reds lost 4-1 to Napoli out in Italy in the Champions League in midweek (7 September).

He completed the full 90 minutes against the Serie A side – only the second time he has done so this season.

Asked whether Robertson should worry about his status under Jurgen Klopp, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I don’t think so, no.

“Sometimes, when players aren’t playing well it doesn’t matter who you are in the squad you get replaced.

“Robertson had not been at his best. What’s the point in signing players if you can’t bring them in when someone’s struggling?

“Tsimikas came in but he came off for Robertson who I thought would start against Napoli.”

Tsimikas has started just 23 games across all competitions for Liverpool since his move from Olympiakos in the summer of 2020 such has been the form of Robertson.

The former Hull City defender has 63 goal contributions in 234 appearances across all competitions for the Reds.
