Agbonlahor on Man City potentially signing Josko Gvardiol after ‘crazy’ reveal

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Man City do not need to spend big on Josko Gvardiol as they are already well-stocked with centre-backs.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed it is “not necessary” for Man City to launch a move for Gvardiol.

The 20-year-old saw his reputation skyrocket as he played a key role in Croatia finishing third at the World Cup in Qatar.

French outlet Foot Mercato reported earlier this month (11 December) that RB Leipzig are now braced for “crazy” offers for Gvardiol from Man City, Man United and Chelsea.

It is claimed that Man City are prepared to offer over £88million while their Manchester rivals and Chelsea are preparing lower bids which could spark a bidding war.

The centre-back still has over four years left on his RB Leipzig contract as he only moved to the German club from Dinamo Zagreb in the summer of 2021 for £14million.

Asked for his verdict on City making a move for Gvardiol, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I just don’t see them doing it, to be honest.

“They’ve got Nathan Ake, Aymeric Laporte, John Stones, Ruben Dias and Manuel Akanji.

“I just don’t see Man City spending that money on a centre-half. I just don’t think it’s necessary.”

Man City

Pep Guardiola revealed on Thursday (22 December) that his side will be without Dias after he suffered a thigh injury on Portugal duty at the World Cup.

His side return to Premier League action next week (28 December) when they face Leeds United at Elland Road.

In other news, a finance guru has claimed that “big changes” are on the horizon for Man City amid a £167million agent reveal.
