Agbonlahor on Tottenham worry as Heung-min Son set for key ‘discussions’

Tottenham fans should not worry about Heung-min Son’s poor performances for South Korea at the World Cup, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker suggested Son’s lack of output was down to his South Korea tournaments.

The 30-year-old ended the tournament with just one assist in four starts as his side crashed out at the round of 16 stage with a thumping 4-1 defeat to Brazil earlier this week (5 December).

The winger wore a facemask in the games after he fractured the bone around his eye while playing for Tottenham prior to the tournament.

As quoted by Goal on Tuesday (6 December), Son revealed he would likely have to continue wearing the mask when the Premier League resumes but will have “discussions” with his doctor about his next steps.

Asked whether Tottenham should be worried about Son’s form, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Not really, no.

“You’ve got to remember that he had a fracture around his eye and had to wear a mask which is going to effect you.

“He’s not playing in a great side so I think he’s done OK. If you put him in that Brazil side and he’s probably scored seven goals by now.

“I don’t think you can use that against him. Son will always be a good player and will be banging in goals as soon as he gets back to Spurs.”

Prior to the World Cup, Son scored five goals in 19 games across all competitions.

All three of his Premier League goals came in a 6-2 win over a poor Leicester City side in September.
