Agbonlahor savages ‘finished’ Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang amid Chelsea development – ‘go to MLS’

Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted he “wouldn’t be surprised” to see Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leave Chelsea to go to Major League Soccer after his ineffective start at the club.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 33-year-old has “lost a yard of pace” and “looks finished” at the top level.

Aubameyang came off the bench in the opening minutes of Chelsea’s 1-0 loss against Man City on Thursday (5 January) but was substituted after 63 minutes following a pedestrian display.

The former Arsenal hitman has scored just one goal in nine Premier League appearances since joining from Barcelona in the summer window.

Chelsea have won just one of their last ten games across all competitions under Graham Potter – who has less than a 50% win rate since taking charge at Stamford Bridge in September.

When asked if Aubameyang could be the answer to the Blues’ problems, Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “Not at all.

“Aubameyang’s not the same player he was. He’s lost a yard of pace, and it happens – once you get to 30, it starts disappearing daily.

“He doesn’t look explosive, he doesn’t look like he’s going to beat his man – he looks finished. He can’t press like you have to in the Premier League.

“I’m sure if he got an offer to go to MLS, he would go in January. It wouldn’t surprise me.”
