Agbonlahor savages Mauricio Pochettino appointment as Chelsea finalise three arrivals
Gabby Agbonlahor has slammed the “shambolic” appointment of Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea and questioned whether he will be a success in the job.
The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 51-year-old should not have been considered by the Blues – with even Tottenham declining to bring him back to the club this summer.
Sources told this site on Tuesday (25 April) that Pochettino has agreed to be the new Chelsea manager and will start in June.
The Argentine will be joined at Stamford Bridge by his former Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain assistants Jesus Perez and Toni Jimenez – who have also agreed to join the club for the 2023-24 campaign.
Chelsea have been hunting for a new full-time boss since the end of Graham Potter’s ill-fated reign at the start of April.
The Blues sit 11th in the Premier League and have been cut well adrift of the fight for European qualification.
Pochettino has been out of work since parting company with PSG at the end of the 2021-22 season.
Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I don’t think Pochettino is the man.
“He didn’t win anything at Spurs, he went to PSG – and won a league title, which any manager could do.
“It’s a bit of a shambles at Chelsea. One minute it’s Nagelsmann, then Enrique – now it’s Pochettino.
“I’d love to have watched the interviews live. What’s the process in appointing this manager?

“I don’t know how Pochettino can even be in Chelsea’s thinking. Spurs haven’t even looked at him as a serious option.
“They’ve not gone for him even though he’s available.”
