Agbonlahor shares verdict on Aymeric Laporte quitting Man City for rivals after £40m reveal

Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted Man City must sell Aymeric Laporte abroad if he is to leave the club this summer.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 28-year-old would walk into every other side in the Premier League.

Sources told this site on Thursday (9 March) that Man City are willing to sell Laporte this summer if they can secure a top-level replacement.

It is believed that City’s asking price for the Spain international stands at around £40million.

Laporte has managed just six Premier League starts this term – with the likes of Nathan Ake, Manuel Akanji, John Stones and Ruben Dias all registering more first-team action.

Man City are no stranger to selling their top stars within the Premier League – with Oleksandr Zinchenko, Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling all moving on to top-four rivals last summer (2022).

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I don’t think they can let him stay in the Premier League.

“Surely they’ll have learned their lesson from what has happened with Jesus and Zinchenko. They’ve got to sell him abroad.

“It’s really strange at Man City. Whatever centre-back pairing they put out, they look strong.

“It’s like they’re spoiled for choice. Laporte goes into the back four of every other Premier League side.

“He’s strong, athletic, good on the ball – it’s strange.

“Pep has just got too many options to choose from.”
