Agbonlahor suggests Roberto Firmino in ‘talks’ over Liverpool transfer after source’s offer reveal

Roberto Firmino will be forced to take a pay cut if he wants to stay at Liverpool, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker suggested that Firmino and his agent will be in discussions about a possible move away if he does not want to take a pay cut.

Sources told Football Insider earlier this month (7 December) that Liverpool have offered the 31-year-old a new contract with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season.

It is understood that the forward is currently on £180,000-a-week but a new contract would be on less money to reflect his lessening impact on the side.

“You have to look at what you’ve brought to the table,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“You can’t look at Mohamed Salah and their contract and what they are earning.

“You have to look at it and think ‘What have I done, how many goals have I scored? How many games have I played? How many games have I missed through injury?’

“He’s got to look at all this and speak to his agent about if there are any other options, can he get a better contract anywhere else? Maybe not because of his injury record.

“It may be the case that Firmino has to take the pay cut because his other options are even worse because of his injury record.

“Teams won’t want to sign players who are injured so much. He’s not in a great position, negotiation-wise, to be honest.”

In other news, Liverpool are in talks to sign a striker Jurgen Klopp has called “sensational”.
