Agbonlahor ‘sure’ about Cole Palmer quitting Man City after Brighton reveal
Gabby Agbonlahor has urged Cole Palmer to leave Man City on loan for the 2023-24 season as he is “not good enough” to hold down a regular spot in the side.
The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 21-year-old should go to a club where he is “the first name on the team sheet”.
According to The Telegraph (17 July), Brighton are leading the race to take Palmer on loan for the 2023-24 campaign – with Burnley and Leicester also in the race.
The report claims Man City are unwilling to sell the midfielder permanently but are open to a loan exit.
Palmer has proved a versatile option for Pep Guardiola since emerging from the City academy and can play on both flanks as well as in an attacking midfield berth.
However, Palmer managed just 850 minutes of football in the treble-winning 2022-23 campaign – starting seven times.
His contract at the Etihad Stadium is set to expire in June 2026.
When asked if the time is right for Palmer to move on, Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “Yeah, I really do.
“Look at Cameron Archer and Aaron Ramsey leaving Aston Villa for Middlesbrough and getting regular football, good experience.
“That’s what you need as a young player.
“If you’re good enough at 18-21 and you play every week for a top club, then fair play.
“But no offence to Cole Palmer, he’s not good enough to start for City every week.

“These are important years to go out and be the first name on the team sheet. Go out to another club and play, that’s my advice.
“There are too many options in front of him, so if I was him I’d get out on loan – for sure.”
