Agbonlahor ‘sure’ about Fabinho exit this summer after what he saw at Liverpool – ‘it’s hard to watch’
Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted Fabinho should be sold by Liverpool this summer with his midfield performances now becoming “hard to watch”.
The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 29-year-old’s lack of pace and effort in transition is “costing” the Reds dearly.
Fabinho was part of the Liverpool midfield which was undone yet again as the Merseysiders fell to a chastening 5-2 home defeat against Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday (21 February).
According to the Daily Mirror (23 February), an exit for the Brazil international is a “possibility” this summer.
Sources told this site on Friday (24 February) that Jurgen Klopp’s side have set their sights on signing three new midfielders in the off-season as they brace for a total overhaul.
Fabinho is under contract at Anfield until June 2026 after signing a fresh deal in August 2021.
Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “Fabinho has been outstanding for Liverpool in the past.
“But the perfect example was against Real Madrid. Luka Modric was sprinting past him in the midfield, and that’s when you know it is game over. It’s hard to watch.
“A 37-year-old midfielder shouldn’t be doing that. Liverpool’s midfield was found out again, as it has been week-in, week-out this season.
“Sometimes when you’ve got two whippets like Wijnaldum next to you, you can get away with it.

“But Fabinho is being found out now. He’s got no pace, he labours when trying to get back – and it’s costing Liverpool.
“He’ll be remembered in the history of the club, but it’s his time to move on – for sure.”
