Agbonlahor ‘sure’ about Liverpool accepting Fabio Carvalho offer as decision made

Gabby Agbonlahor has suggested Liverpool won’t regret letting Fabio Carvalho leave the club this summer as he is not at a high enough “level” to succeed.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the Reds can still bank a big profit on the 20-year-old if they include a sell-on clause in a potential deal.

Sources told this site on Wednesday (19 April) that Liverpool will allow Carvalho to leave this summer after limited involvement in the 2022-23 season.

The Merseysiders would prefer to send the youngster out on loan next season but are open to allowing a permanent transfer.

Carvalho, who cost Liverpool a reported £5million last summer (2022), has managed just eight starts across all competitions this season.

He has predominately played on the left side of the Reds’ three-pronged attack but the likes of Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo are all ahead of him in the pecking order.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “They’ve seen him all season in games, in training, in the Under-21 side.

“I said to my friends when he came into Liverpool – ‘where is he going to play?’

“You look at that Liverpool side and even when there are injuries, they’ve played Curtis Jones or Harvey Elliott.

“They’ve got Jota, Diaz – I just don’t see a position for him. I think he picked the wrong move.

“Sometimes you go to a big club but your level isn’t that high. I think he should have stayed with Fulham and played in the Premier League with them.

“It’s a move which hasn’t worked for any party.

“Maybe when he’s 23 or 24 and he’s developed more, Liverpool might look back at it – but I’m sure they’ll put a sell-on clause in any deal they do.”
