Agbonlahor ‘sure’ about potential Tyrone Mings exit after what he’s seen at Aston Villa
Gabby Agbonlahor has backed Tyrone Mings to be rewarded with a new contract at Aston Villa following his fresh start under new boss Unai Emery.
The former Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 29-year-old is a “top defender” – and criticised fans and pundits for “jumping on the bandwagon” to criticise him.
Mings has entered the final 18 months of his contract at Aston Villa after signing a four-year extension in 2020.

The England international has bounced back after being stripped of the captaincy by former boss Steven Gerrard and missing out on the squad for the World Cup in Qatar.
He has started all of Aston Villa’s Premier League fixtures since the arrival of Emery in November.
The former Bournemouth ace is close to reaching 150 appearances for the Midlands giants after signing for a reported £25million in 2019.
When asked if Mings has done enough to earn a new Aston Villa contract, Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I think so.
“He’s been strong, especially since Unai Emery has come into the club.
“We saw his assist for Danny Ings against Wolves too.
“He’s a leader. He will make the odd mistake, but most defenders do.

“Mings is someone people will jump on the bandwagon to criticise, but for me – he has been a top defender since joining the club.
“He will be someone I’m sure Unai Emery has looked at and will want to give a new contract to.”
