Agbonlahor ‘sure’ on £30m+ Newcastle United move for Anthony Gordon – ‘fans sometimes forget…’
Gabby Agbonlahor has backed Everton winger Anthony Gordon to thrive in a “new environment” as Newcastle United step up their efforts to land him this month.
The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 21-year-old is unfairly treated by fans despite his young age.
Sources told this site on Tuesday (24 January) that Everton are braced for a new £30million-plus offer for Gordon from Newcastle this month.
Newcastle are in the market for a versatile forward rather than a direct replacement for loaned-out striker Chris Wood and are willing to spend big on a permanent signing.
Chelsea failed with a move for Gordon in the summer window, while Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa have recently expressed their interest in the England Under-21 international.
According to Sky Sports journalist Ben Grounds (24 January), the winger missed training at Everton on Tuesday – alongside in-demand midfielder Amadou Onana.
Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I do like Anthony Gordon.
“I think fans sometimes forget how young he is. He’s only 21, and he’s still got a lot to learn.
“He’s got the speed, he’s got the dribbling and the technique – he just needs more goals.
“He is going to learn a lot if he goes somewhere like Newcastle.
“But the thing at Everton is, I’ve heard that he wants silly money in his new contract.

“I’m sure if they get a good enough offer, they will accept it. They probably wish they sold him for £60m to Chelsea.
“I think a different environment, away from a relegation battle – it will help him a lot.”
