Agbonlahor swipes at Anthony Martial after what he’s just seen at Man United

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Anthony Martial “owes Man United” after failing to deliver on his promise as the “next best thing”.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the “inconsistent” 27-year-old must now “kick on” in the final 18 months of his Old Trafford contract.

Martial led the line for Man United and registered a first-half goal as they beat Nottingham Forest 3-0 on Tuesday (27 December) – in their first Premier League game since Cristiano Ronaldo left the club.

However, sources told this site on Wednesday (28 December) that Erik ten Hag’s side are working on a temporary forward signing and are willing to pay a £5million loan fee to get a deal over the line in January

Martial, who cost the Red Devils a reported £53.1million in 2015, has notched five goals in nine appearances this season.

He was linked heavily with a move away from Old Trafford in the summer window after spending the second half of last season on loan at Sevilla.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I think he owes it to Man United to kick on.

“He came to the club as the next best thing, but it just hasn’t happened.

“On his day he is outstanding, but he’s just too inconsistent. He can’t stay at that peak for long enough.

“He owes Man United to put in some really good performances from now until the end of the season when they really need him.”
