Agbonlahor taken aback by Pau Torres latest after Aston Villa source’s £40m+ reveal
Gabby Agbonlahor has suggested it is unclear where Pau Torres will fit into the Aston Villa side if he is to sign for the Midlands giants.
The former Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed having four “top centre-halves” could work in his old sides’ favour.
Football Insider revealed last week (19 June) that Aston Villa are closing in on the signing of Villarreal defender Torres after Unai Emery made him a top summer target.
Villarreal are adamant Torres will command a £40million-plus fee, which would represent a club-record fee for Villa.
A first-choice partnership of Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa came into their own last season following Emery’s arrival in November 2022.
Big-money signing Diego Carlos will also be back in the fold after missing the majority of the 2022-23 campaign with an Achilles injury.
Europa League winner Torres has racked up 136 La Liga appearances and is also capped 23 times by Spain.
Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I understand competition for places is needed.
“But I just look at Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa and I’m not sure where Torres comes in. Diego Carlos will struggle to get in the side right now.

“If you’re going to have four top centre-halves, who all want to start, it could be tricky.
“It’ll work in Aston Villa’s favour – but I’m not sure who you drop. It’s going to be so interesting to see Emery’s decision if Torres does come in.”
