Agbonlahor tells Jurgen Klopp to ‘fix up’ amid new Liverpool sack verdict – ‘do they go in a new direction?’
Gabby Agbonlahor has suggested Liverpool could go in a “new direction” if Jurgen Klopp keeps providing “excuses” for poor performances.
The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 55-year-old is “not getting a tune” out of a “very good” squad.
Liverpool advanced to the fourth round of the FA Cup on Tuesday (17 January) but are sitting a lowly ninth in the Premier League.
The Merseysiders have suffered losses against Brentford and Brighton in recent weeks.
Liverpool have a number of key stars on the treatment table – including Virgil van Dijk, Diogo Jota, and Luis Diaz – something which Klopp has cited as a key reason for a drop in performance levels.
The German signed a bumper four-year contract extension last year (2022).
Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “If I’m the owners of Liverpool, I’d acknowledge that Klopp has done a brilliant job.
“But is he still getting the same tune out of these players?
“As much as they’ve had injury problems, they still have a very good set of players available – and he’s not getting a tune out of them.
“The owners have got to decide whether they’re going to give Klopp money, or head in a new direction?
“I just feel that we can’t keep hearing excuses. He’s got brilliant players available, and he’s not getting good enough results.

“He could change his formation, his system. Klopp shouldn’t set his side up to press if he doesn’t think he has the players for it.
“This is what managers get paid for. Klopp needs to fix up and do better.”
