Agbonlahor tells Newcastle United to ‘get rid’ of Allan Saint-Maximin – ‘he’s crazy’

Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted it is time for Newcastle United to “get rid” of Allan Saint-Maximin as their project goes to the next level.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, slammed the 26-year-old’s lack of end product and “crazy” finishing.

According to talkSPORT (21 April), Newcastle are ready to cash in on Saint-Maximin this summer in order to raise funds for new arrivals.

The winger has notched just one goal and five assists in 26 appearances this season – just 13 of which have come from the start.

Saint-Maximin has also struggled with injury this season and will miss Sunday’s (23 April) crunch clash with Tottenham with a top-four berth up for grabs.

Anthony Gordon is the favourite to replace him on the left flank after his reported £45million move from Everton in January.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I would get rid of him.

“I do like him, but he doesn’t bring enough goals or assists.

“He’s got a lot of trickery, he brings a lot of excitement – but he just makes the wrong pass at the wrong time.

“He doesn’t score enough, either, and he can be a bit crazy with his finishing.

Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon in conversation with manager Eddie Howe on the touchline.

“Newcastle have got to move on from Saint-Maximin now. They’ve got Almiron who they should definitely keep around, and Gordon is going to be part of the project.

“They’ve got to go out and get proven European-level players, and Saint-Maximin isn’t at that level.”
