Agbonlahor thrilled by potential Raphinha arrival at Newcastle United after new twist – ‘I love him’

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Raphinha would “fit in perfectly” at Newcastle United as Eddie Howe’s side reportedly consider a summer deal.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted signing the 26-year-old would bring out the best in winger Miguel Almiron.

According to Spanish outlet Sport (12 March), Newcastle and Chelsea are among the sides monitoring Raphinha’s situation ahead of the summer window.

The report claims Barcelona see the winger as a good source of potential income as they continue to struggle with crippling financial problems.

Raphinha, who left Leeds United for a reported £55million last summer (2022), has notched nine goals and nine assists in 37 appearances as a rotation option for Barca this term.

He managed 29 combined goals and assists in 65 Premier League appearances during his time at Elland Road.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “He’d be a great signing for Newcastle.

“Almiron needs a bit of competition, and Raphinha would definitely bring that. Almiron would have to be at the top of his game to get past him and into the side.

“If you think about Raphinha on the left, and one of Saint-Maximin or Gordon on the left – that’s an outstanding attack.

“It just depends on how much Barcelona need the money.

Newcastle

“I’m sure if Newcastle give them the right money, they’d have to consider it.

“He’s a top player and I loved him at Leeds. He’d excite the fanbase and I think he’d fit in perfectly at Newcastle.”
