Agbonlahor tips Erling Haaland for world-record exit after ‘crazy’ Man City talks update
Gabby Agbonlahor has urged Man City to insert a “£200million” release clause into any new contract for Erling Haaland.
The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, backed the 22-year-old to rake in a world-record fee when he leaves the club – with Neymar’s reported £198million move to Paris Saint-Germain currently holding that accolade.
Sources told this site on Sunday (30 April) that Man City are preparing to open talks with Haaland over a new contract to keep him at the club until 2029.
The Norway international had a £150million release clause in his current deal but it was removed after Pep Guardiola extended his City deal earlier this season.
Haaland’s current deal at the Etihad Stadium, which nets him a reported wage of £375,000-a-week, runs until June 2027.
He has scored 50 goals in 44 club appearances this season – and has broken the record for the most strikes in a Premier League season.
Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “First of all, the shirt sales must be crazy. He’s got to be the most valuable Man City player.
“His age is a big factor, as well. At 22, he can play until around 37 or 38 – that’s 15 years.
“It’s going to be crazy money. A £150million release clause would be very cheap, so I can see why that has been taken out.

“I think he could well be the first £200million player when he leaves City.
“Because of his age and what he offers, I think he’s definitely worth that. City need to try and get that written into this new deal.”
