Agbonlahor: Tottenham may now appoint Mason amid latest twist

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Tottenham could appoint Ryan Mason as their new manager.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England forward suggested Spurs’ “shambolic” approach to finding a new manager may see the interim boss given the role full time.

Tottenham have been managerless since April 19 when Jose Mourinho was sacked after 18 months in charge.

They have held talks with various candidates but are yet to find a successor to Mourinho.

Football Insider exclusively revealed today (June 23) that they are planning talks with ex-Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo.

The pursuit of the 47-year-old is being led by new managing director Fabio Paratici after it was previously widely reported he was not on Spurs’ radar.

But with time running out before pre-season begins, Agbonlahor has suggested Mason may get the job.

He told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “It’s just a shambles there at the moment, if I was them I’d probably just give it to Ryan Mason.

“There’s that many candidates that have turned them down…

“Pre-season starts in about a week so they’re probably going to have to give it to somebody else.

“It’s such a shame it’s come to this for Spurs and their fans. They need to sort something out, for sure.”

Mason was placed in interim charge after Mourinho’s sacking and oversaw seven games, including the Carabao Cup final defeat to Man City.

The 30-year-old ended his short spell with four wins and three losses as they secured qualification for the inaugural Europa Conference League.
