Agbonlahor: Tottenham told to sign ‘next Martin Odegaard’ as marquee deal close

Tottenham need to sign their own Martin Odegaard, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England forward also claimed they should improve their full-backs as Antonio Conte’s budget is set for a major boost.

The Athletic reported on Monday (10 October) that the club are in “meaningful talks” with Google over sponsoring the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

It is claimed that any deal would be a “coup” for Spurs and will boost Conte’s coffers.

Asked what Tottenham should target in the transfer market, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I think they need a top right-back.

“Djed Spence isn’t proven in the Premier League and [Matt] Doherty and [Emerson] Royal are not top, top right-backs.

“They need a top left-back. [Ryan] Sessegnon looks promising but he’s not going to be the answer.

“They need a midfielder who can get on the ball and make things happen, a number 10 like Odegaard.

“That’s all they need. Going forward I feel like they’ve got enough options.

“They are the three positions they need to work on. If they can get them in I feel they are going to be a lot better.

“You look at Arsenal, they’ve got Odegaard who just fits perfectly into that number 10 role, he gets on the ball and makes things happen.

“Arsenal’s defence is probably more secure as well.

“It is only a few positions for Spurs and they’d be right up there.”

Tottenham are now third in the Premier League, four points off Arsenal who are top.

They are next in domestic action on Saturday (15 October) when they host Everton.
