Agbonlahor urges Newcastle to seal next ‘frightening’ deal after Sandro Tonali update

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed AC Milan star Sandro Tonali is the “perfect” partner for Bruno Guimaraes at Newcastle United.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Magpies will have a “frightening” midfield if they can sign a “top-class number ten” alongside the Italian this summer.

Football Insider revealed last week (22 June) that Newcastle are set to sign Tonali from AC Milan in a deal worth around £60million.

The Italy international is set to become the Magpies’ first major acquisition as their spending under the Saudi Arabian regime continues.

Newcastle will play Champions League football for the first time in 20 years next season after securing a fourth-place finish in the 2022-23 campaign.

Tonali played 12 times in Europe’s top club competition last term as AC Milan reached the semi-finals.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “It’s a lot of money, but he’s a top player.

“That centre midfield needs more options for Newcastle. Joelinton’s done well, but they’re in the Champions League now – you need more quality.

“If you put Tonali in that midfield next to Guimaraes and bring in a top-class number ten, it’s frightening.

“You’ve then got Longstaff, Joelinton, Willock all ready to come in.

“Newcastle have got rid of a lot of deadwood and they’re really building a top squad now capable of competing.

“Tonali is the perfect man to come in and transform that midfield.”
