Agbonlahor urges Newcastle United to complete Eberechi Eze deal after reveal – ‘I love him’

Gabby Agbonlahor has urged Newcastle to sign Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze as well as James Maddison in order to go to “another level” in the 2023-24 season.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 24-year-old is “a million times better” than reported Magpies target Conor Gallagher.

According to Spanish outlet AS (24 May), Newcastle have identified Eze as a possible ‘Galactico’ signing this summer following their Champions League qualification.

The report also mentions names like Joao Felix, Ryan Gravenberch, Moussa Diaby and Samuel Chukwueze as targets for the Magpies.

Football Insider revealed earlier this month (10 May) that Newcastle have opened preliminary talks with Leicester’s Maddison.

Eze has notched 10 goals and four assists across 39 appearances in all competitions this term – earning his first England call-up as a result of his late-season form.

The midfielder’s Crystal Palace contract runs until the summer of 2025.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “It would be a really good signing.

“He’s completely different to Conor Gallagher – he’s a million times better.

“He can run with the ball at speed, change direction with skill, he’s adding goals to his game, can play in the number ten or off the wing – it’s a fantastic signing.

“If I’m Newcastle, I’m going for him and Maddison.

“You’d then have competition that can take Newcastle to another level.

“I love Eze and I think there’s going to be a lot of clubs after him.”
