Agbonlahor ‘very excited’ as Alejandro Garnacho-Man United deal close

Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted Alejandro Garnacho’s future is “very exciting” as Man United work to tie him down to a bumper new deal.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 18-year-old attracts criticism simply because he plays for one of England’s top sides.

According to The Times (22 February), Garnacho is set to sign a new five-year contract after impressing for Man United this season.

The report claims the winger will receive a bumper pay rise on his current £7,000-a-week deal, which runs until the end of the 2023-24 season.

Garnacho has started nine games amid 26 appearances across all competitions – notching three goals and five assists.

He is yet to make a senior international appearance but both Spain and Argentina are battling to persuade the Madrid-born star to pledge his allegiance.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I’m very excited by him.

“Whenever I see criticism of him, I just think people are forgetting just how young he is. When you’re playing for a club like Man United, it’s easy to get criticism.

“He’s bound to be very raw, but he’s learning every game.

“Even when he came on against Barcelona at Old Trafford, he was very clever.

“He knew the right time to pass or to take a player on.

Man United

“Man United will have been desperate to get him tied down. He’s the perfect player to bring on off the bench at the moment.

“I think they’ve got a really talented player on their hands with an amazing future ahead of him.”
