Agbonlahor ‘worried’ about Lucas Digne exit as Aston Villa medical scheduled – ‘it’s not a good sign’

Gabby Agbonlahor has warned the imminent arrival of Alex Moreno at Aston Villa is “not a good sign” for Lucas Digne.

The former Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested that left-back was not an area he was expecting new boss Unai Emery to address in his first transfer window at Villa Park.

Football Insider revealed on Sunday (8 January) that Aston Villa were closing in on left-back Moreno, as well as looking to sign a forward player this month.

Sky Sports updated on Tuesday (10 January) to confirm that the Spaniard will fly to England and undergo a medical on Wednesday after a £12.5million fee was agreed with Real Betis.

It is expected that one of Digne or Ludwig Augustinsson will end up leaving the club, although it is not clear who at this stage.

The former Everton star joined Aston Villa 12 months ago for a reported fee of £25million.

Digne has registered two goals and four assists in 32 outings for the Midlands giants.

When asked if the Frenchman has done enough in a Villa shirt, Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I think he has, he’s a top left-back.

“He’s good going forward, strong on the ball, defensively strong.

“But it’s a worry for him to see that a new manager’s first signing is a left-back. It’s not somewhere I thought we needed a new player.

“If I’m first-choice, and there’s already a back-up at the club in Augustinsson – it’s not a good sign.”
