Ajax make approach to sign Everton’s Mason Holgate – sources
Ajax have made an enquiry about signing Everton defender Mason Holgate, sources have told Football Insider.
Everton and their manager Sean Dyche are open to offers for Holgate after he spent the second half of last season on loan at Sheffield United.
The 27-year-old was on the bench for Everton’s Premier League curtain raiser against Brighton, but he did come on for the final five minutes as they lost 3-0.
Ajax are in the market for a defender before the transfer window closes and have targeted the former England Under-21 international.
Holgate is out of contract at the Merseyside club next summer, presenting this window as Everton’s final chance to make a profit from him.
The versatile defender has made 150 appearances for the club but fell out of favour at Goodison Park last season.
Ajax are prepared to give Mason Holgate an opportunity to play
Holgate spent last season on loan at Southampton and Sheffield United, with his initial spell with the Saints being cut short in February.
He then made the move to play for the Blades but still struggled to secure regular playing time.
The centre-back only made 17 appearances in all competitions throughout the 2023-24 campaign, and Holgate now attempting to regain regular playing time.

Another defender headed for the Goodison Park exit door is 20-year-old Reece Welch.
Football Insider revealed that Leyton Orient have registered their interest in signing the young defender on loan for the season.
