Ajeti 'fighting for his future' after Celtic source reveal - pundit

Alan Hutton has insisted Albian Ajeti is “fighting for his future” at Celtic after slipping down the pecking order.

The former Scotland international, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed Ajeti has failed to make the most of his opportunities with the Hoops.

A Celtic source today (10th September) told Football Insider that the striker is set to be frozen out at the club following the summer arrivals of Kyogo Furuhashi and Giorgos Giakoumakis.

Talks were held with several European sides about a loan move for the Switzerland international during the summer window but no agreement was reached.

Ajeti joined the club last summer from West Ham for £5million, scoring six in 36 games across all competitions last term.

Hutton insisted that the Swiss striker has got to “show that he’s up for the fight” in order to recapture his place in the Celtic side.

“It will be a struggle for him now to get back into the side,” he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.

“It’s a strange one because he started off pre-season as the main man and was the captain in some of the games.

“Since then, he’s just fallen away, so he can’t turn around and say he hasn’t had opportunities after that.

“I think as a manager, you always want options up front – so he will always be in the squad.

“A striker could be out of form or injured so you will want a ready backup.

“Leigh Griffiths has moved on, so Ajeti still has an opportunity – but he has to show that he’s up for the fight.

“He’s definitely fighting for his future. It just hasn’t worked out for him, even though he’s had a lot of opportunities.”

In other news, this pundit is expecting big things from new Celtic signing Giakoumakis.
