Alan Hutton delivers verdict on Celtic and Rangers transfer business – and who had best January
Alan Hutton has admitted Celtic may have had a better January transfer window than Rangers.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender and Rangers TV pundit pointed to the immediate success of Reo Hatate and Daizen Maeda in his verdict.
Rangers signed four senior players during the winter window, while Celtic brought five players through the door.
Aaron Ramsey was the only deadline day arrival at either Glasgow side, the 31-year-old joining Rangers on loan from Juventus.
Hutton, a boyhood Gers fan, insisted time would tell which side had done the best business.
However, he suggested the Hoops may have the edge having completed their signings early.
Asked who he thought had the best window, Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Only time will tell, I think is the answer to that one.
“Overall, probably Celtic, when you think about it. The players that they have brought in have really hit the ground running.
“Maeda has obviously scored, Hatate looks a really good player, a really good signing.
“It’s a difficult one to call at the moment. I think we have to wait and see the outcome of the league.
“But I think both teams will be happy with the business that they have done.”
Celtic currently trail Rangers by two points heading into Wednesday’s derby clash at Parkhead.

The Hoops will be without new striker signing Maeda, who is on international duty with Japan.
Rangers will also be missing their star centre-forward, with Alfredo Morelos away with Colombia.
