Alan Hutton gives instant verdict on Oscar Cortes after first Rangers sighting
Oscar Cortes must settle into the squad and focus on adapting to Scottish football before he can thrive at Rangers.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Gers and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton was blown away by the January signing’s energy and attacking threat since his move from RC Lens.
The Colombia international has made just three appearances for his new side, including one start, and has already impressed the Ibrox faithful having bagged an assist in the Scottish Cup against Ayr United on Saturday (10 February).
However, while his raw ability was clear to the Ibrox faithful, the 20-year-old had played just 40 senior minutes of football in Ligue 1 before moving to the Glasgow giants.
Rangers new boy Oscar Cortes is a “real player”
Hutton hailed Cortes for being “desperate” to make an impact in his starting debut against Ayr and was adamant he could become a real asset to Philippe Clement’s side.
“I think at this moment in time for Cortes, it’s more about settling into the side than anything,” he told Football Insider.
“I know he’s not played a lot of football in recent months.
“You could see that he was desperate to get going right from the outgo.
“He was on the front foot, energetic and driving at the defence.
“I tell you what, he has one thing on his mind – to drive at his opponents.
“It was just a glimpse at what he’s capable of, especially when he gets up and running.

“It’s just about adapting to the Scottish game and getting his game sharpness up to last the 90 minutes.
“But I think Rangers have got a real player on their hands with him.”
