Alan Shearer delivers scathing verdict on Liverpool after Hull defeat
By Dominic Toner
Alan Shearer believes that Liverpool were weak both defensively and offensively in their defeat to Hull on Saturday.
The Reds slumped to a shock 2-0 away defeat against Hull, with Alfred N’Diaye and Oumar Niasse scoring the goals for the hosts.
Goalkeeper Simon Mignolet gifted the first goal away after dropping the ball into the path of N’Diaye and the Merseyside club were also tested on several occasions by the hosts.
Liverpool’s consistency in front of goal appears to have deserted them recently as they have failed to score in five of their last nine games across all competitions.
Shearer feels that Jurgen Klopp’s side were poor in the defeat to Hull and were outplayed by their opponents.
“Hull were brilliant. So well organised. Liverpool were awful again defensively and looked very tired going forward,” Shearer wrote on his personal Twitter account.
Liverpool’s title bid appears to have completely collapsed after a poor start to 2017, with the club also exiting the EFL and FA Cup.
The Reds have now fallen 13 points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea and look to be in a battle for the top four positions.
Klopp’s side have suffered without talisman attacker Sadio Mane during his absence to the Africa Cup of Nations, but even he was unable to influence the Hull defeat.
In other Liverpool news, Jamie Carragher has urged the club to axe one of their first teamers.
