Alan Shearer gives Twitter verdict on Everton win v Arsenal, laments absent ace
By Harry Sykes
Alan Shearer has taken to Twitter to lament the absence of Shkodran Mustafi in Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat against Everton on Tuesday.
The Gunners were strong favourites heading into the clash at Goodison Park and took the lead through a deflected Alexis Sanchez free-kick.
But spurred on by a vociferous home crowd, Everton secured a memorable victory through goals from defensive duo Seamus Coleman and Ashley Williams.
Shearer took to his personal Twitter account immediately after the match to hail a “deserved” victory for Everton, while describing Arsenal as “vulnerable” in the absence of key centre-back Mustafi.
The Germany international has made a huge impact at Emirates Stadium since his summer switch from Valencia and formed a fine partnership at the back with Laurent Koscielny.
The Frenchman took his place at the heart of the defence and was partnered by Brazilian Gabriel.
Second-placed Arsenal’s defeat means they failed to make any ground on leaders Chelsea, who remain three points clear with a game in hand.
Everton climb to seventh in the table and just a point adrift of Manchester United in sixth.
