Alan Shearer reacts to Harvey Barnes’ message amid Newcastle United exit news
Harvey Barnes took to social media with a new message for Newcastle United fans as speculation emerges around his future.
The 27-year-old played the full 90 minutes as Eddie Howe’s side moved above Man City in the Premier League table, thanks to goals from Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes.
A major incident likely played a vital role in the Magpies’ victory, with referee John Brooks slammed for hesitating over Nicolas Jackson’s red card by Keith Hackett after just 35 minutes.
While the former Leicester City man was unable to add to his 13 goal contributions so far this season, Barnes has earned interest from Aston Villa as Premier League teams line up for his signature.
Harvey Barnes earns rave reviews in incredible Premier League season
Taking to Instagram (12 May), Barnes shared a series of images from the Magpies’ win over Chelsea alongside the caption: “A great Sunday,” with black and white hearts.
The winger gained the attention of Joelinton, Jacob Murphy, and Sven Botman, with St James’ Park legend, Alan Shearer, also liking the post.
Eddie Howe wants to keep Newcastle United stars this summer
Football Insider verdict
It is not incredibly surprising that teams are lining up for the 27-year-old’s signature, and it certainly makes sense for Unai Emery if Villa are unable to secure Marcus Rashford permanently.
Howe will not be keen to lose many of his current squad, however, with a top-two finish currently on the cards if they can overcome Arsenal in the penultimate game of the Premier League season.
Premier League standings | Points |
2. Arsenal | 68 |
3. Newcastle United | 66 |
4. Man City | 65 |
5. Chelsea | 63 |
6. Aston Villa | 63 |
Alexander Isak has been heavily linked with a Newcastle exit, with Liverpool usually mentioned in the same sentence, and Bruno Guimaraes is also well sought-after.
With Champions League football all but secured, it will be absolutely vital that these stars remain at St James’ Park ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, and are even joined by new talents.
The Magpies could certainly strengthen in defence, with Botman unable to stay fit and Dan Burn sometimes exposed in Europe for his lack of pace, but Howe might have to sell before he can buy.
