‘Alarm bells’ ringing for Solskjaer after Man United update from Times – ex-manager

Alex McLeish has admitted the “alarm bells” should be ringing for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United amid reported dressing room unrest.

The former Scotland manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, highlighted the power and influence of players in the modern game.

As reported by the Times (27th October), there have been heated discussions between players and staff after the 4-2 defeat to Leicester and the 5-0 loss against Liverpool.

Players reportedly hit out at each other and the management in the dressing room.

They questioned the likes of team selection and training.

Some players are said to doubt Solskjaer’s tactical acumen and his ability to compete with the best in the division.

Despite the reported discontent, the Norwegian boss is reportedly set to remain in charge for now.

However, McLeish admitted the noises coming out of Old Trafford will only Solskjaer’s job more difficult.

McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I’ll tell you when the alarm bells should start ringing. It’s when there’s unrest among the squad and the footballers.

“Many, many years there was something in a Dutch newspaper about the players deciding whether the manager should stay or not.

“I think it was at Feyenoord, a highly regarded manager. I couldn’t believe reading it. When I read that, I said it’s only a matter of time before that comes to UK.

“That would be my biggest fear for Ole. Rather than me throwing him under the bus, it could be a player.

“I see things already being written about players being unhappy. When you hear those things escaping from the camp, you tend to think all is not well.

“If there’s unrest in the squad, it makes it much more difficult for the manager.”
